Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Dr. Greg Meekin. I graduated in 1988 from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C. I then completed my residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (also known as ENT) at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
After completing residency while serving in the United States Air Force, I became the Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Keesler Medical Center as a Lieutenant Colonel.
During my military career, I completed training as a Diving Medical Officer with the Navy, Air Force Flight Surgeon and Army Airborne Paratrooper.
I have been in private practice since 2001 in Gulfport, MS treating pediatric and adult ear, nose and throat patients. My primary areas of interest have included sinus surgery, allergy treatment, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, microscopic ear surgery as well as tonsils, adenoids, and ear tubes. I have also served as a Medical Officer for the Gulfport Police Department SWAT team since completing my military career.
I have developed techniques to allow me to perform sinus surgery without the need for packing in the nose post-operatively or nasal splinting except in isolated cases. I use the latest technology in image guidance to perform precise correction of the sinus blockage causing symptoms. These up to date approaches allow the patient to be more comfortable during the healing phase after surgery. The use of intensive treatment of allergies post-operatively, including immunotherapy in some cases, keeps the incidence of recurrent problems low.
If you need thyroid or parathyroid surgery I perform the most up to date approaches. To aid in diagnosis, I perform ultrasound in my office to direct the best approach to treatment. Needle biopsies can be performed in the office if needed. During surgery, I utilize intraoperative nerve monitoring to map both the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve and the recurrent nerve which are critical to the voice. Using minimally invasive techniques, the incision site is practically invisible.
My office also provides full hearing and balance testing and treatment. When needed, the patient can be conveniently fitted with hearing aids the same day by my full audiology staff.
With my background as a Navy Diving Medical Officer, I now practice Diving Medicine with a special focus on disorders of the ears, Eustachian tubes and sinuses which prevent patients from enjoying underwater activities. I am an avid technical diver myself. Shipwreck diving is my passion and I enjoy helping others to experience the underwater environment.
I hope you will allow my staff and I to care for all your needs in these areas. If we cannot completely answer your questions or diagnose your problems, we will make sure to find the best way of assisting you to getting healthy.
